Okay, so it’s been a hectic few months. After a glorious vacation in Hawaii, I returned home to the delightful chaos of a lady with two babies at home. A growing little girl and a growing small business. As you might imagine, life has been busy. And we’ve been a little tired.
Yes, even the dog.
So I’m trying something new. I’m going to NOT write a 1,000 word post. I’m going to be direct. And I’m going to see if I can not let perfect be the enemy of the good. There are some lessons that this lady needs to learn and relearn and then, yes, learn again. This week I’m remembering that there is never the perfect time to sit down and write the perfect blog post. There is only choosing to make the time. Or not. Choosing to work an activity into your life. Or not.
Today I choose writing. And I choose imperfection. And maybe even a little brevity.
Here are some of the delights I’ve had with my babies in the past couple of months:
Henrietta is steadily inching her way towards crawling, having a whole lot to say (which often sounds like YA-YA-YA or DA-DA-DA or very often MA-MA-MA-MA-MA-MA-MA-MA-MAAAAAA!), and very keen to be out in the world exploring.
Sometimes she even gets herself into some strange positions.
But does that get our girl down? No sir! Why be sad, when you’ve figured out how to clap!
I often imagine her internal monologue looks something like, Yes that grass does look delicious to eat. Hmm, I wonder if I can use that dog there to pull myself up into a standing position. Why mom, thanks for placing your hair into pulling position. More food! More food now! Why do you and Daddy sleep in that other room so far away? I hate this car seat! Doggies! I love the doggies! Oh Fernando, you are such a silly panda bear….And, well, the list goes on. This past week, our girl pulled herself into a stand all on her own. I think her smile gives you a pretty good sense of what she was thinking.
And then, of course, came the inevitable question of how to get back down. Hmmm…
Then we hit the weekend and all that backwards crawling and rolling around transformed itself into full grown crawling. Ladies and Gentleman, prepare yourselves. This whole parenting thing just got a lot more crazy. (And fun!)
Point Road Studios has been doing some standing of its own too – we are officially growing! I’m getting to work with amazingly talents individuals and organizations and our revenue targets for the first half of the year have been hit! We are making good headway on getting all of the infrastructure of the company set up too – our (legal) book is all set up, business cards are at the printer, and copy for the new website is written and just about to go live (will certainly post when that goes up!)
I’m also delighted that despite the time and effort that goes into keeping up with my two babes, I’ve really been enjoying (choosing to!) spring. Tomatoes are going crazy in the vegetable garden. I spend as much time as possible outdoors. I lounge poolside with good friends. Make dinner with my awesome family. Not all days are awesome. There was that week when I felt like a walking zombie from lack of sleep. And there was some stuff Colin and I had percolating that fell through and we were really bummed. But at the end of hard days, Colin and I play the “grateful game” before we go to bed, taking turns saying aloud things that we are grateful for until our words turn into the quiet of slumber.
It is a wonderful way to fall asleep.
